  22. Installation Options

  25. Install [options]

  27. While running the installation program for NyikosNews, choose any of the
  28. following options:
  29.  
  30. -deaf [qualifiers]
  31.  
  32. Makes the newsreader "deaf" (unable to receive postings) according to the
  33. qualifiers you specify.  These qualifiers are:
  34.  
  35.             d: <date1:date2>  (suppresses posts between the specified dates)
  36.             f: <filename>     (posts reminder articles hat your newsreader
  37.                                is deaf.  Text comes from specified file)
  38.             k: <keyword>      (suppresses all articles with specified keyword)
  39.             n: <newsgroups>   (deafness only to the specified newsgroups)
  40.             o:                "or" - used to string qualifiers together
  41.             t: <threads>      (suppresses postings with specified Subjects)
  42.             r:                (suppresses random posts)
  43.  
  44. -mute [qualifiers]
  45.  
  46. Makes the newsreader "mute" (unable to send postings) according to the
  47. qualifiers you specify.  These are:
  48.  
  49.             d: <date1:date2> (prevents posting between the soecified dates)
  50.             f: <filename>    (posts reminder articles that you can't post)
  51.             k: <keywords>    (prevents posting articles containing keyword)
  52.             n: <newsgroups>  (prevents posting to the specified newsgroups)
  53.             o:               "or" - can be used to string qualifiers together
  54.             r:               (makes the poster randomly mute)
  55.             t: <threads>     (prevents responding to specified threads)

  57. -reinstall [weekly|monthly]
  58.  
  59. The reinstall option is dangerous, but because of demand we have made it
  60. available.  If you specify reinstall, the server will occasionally modify
  61. itself and recompile.  If you don't specify weekly or monthly, the timing
  62. will be random.  Just before reinstallation, a reminder posting will be sent
  63. to the net, informing it of the reinstallation.  Note that the -deaf and -mute
  64. qualifiers need to be reset after each compilation.

  66. -reminder <newsgroups> [daily|weekly|monthly]
  67.  
  68. The reminder option sends sporadic messages, to the newsgroups you specify,
  69. that your posting software is subject to occasional weirdness.  The frequency
  70. is random if you don't specify daily, weekly or monthly.

  75. Now, let's see the installation in action.  Here are some examples of how you
  76. can best take advantage of the unique features of NyikosNews.

  78.             Install -deaf n:talk.abortion  d:1/5/93

  80. This will cause your newsreader to ignore posts to talk.abortion on 1/5/93.

  82.             Install -deaf n:talk.abortion  d:1/1/93:1/5/93  -mute r:

  84. All articles in talk.abortion between 1/1 and 1/5 will be ignored.  In
  85. addition, random articles will not be posted.

  89. Newsreader will ignore posts to talk.abortion containing the word apologize.

  93.             Install -deaf k:"provide references please" o: t:*mendacity*
  94.                     -mute k:apologize  d:1/1/93:1/15/93
  95.                     -reinstall monthly
  96.                     -reminder talk.* daily

  98. This rather ingenious combination will cause your newsreader to delete all
  99. incoming articles containing the word "mendacity" in the subject line or
  100. the phrase "provide references please" anywhere in the article.  The
  101. newsposter will also refuse to post any article dated between January 1
  102. and January 15 containing the word apologize.

  104. In addition, the -reminder option will post daily reminder to all talk.*
  105. groups that your newsreader occasionally goes wacky.  The entire newsreader
  106. will recompile every month.
