  16. I heard on the News last night that Nureyev had died. I found the way
  17. they reported it immensely 'interesting' (read 'bloody irritating')
  18.  
  19. 1) On the headlines they said 'Rudolf Nureyev is dead'. Not 'has died at
  20. the age of...' or 'has died of....' which is what they usually say. 
  21. That  (spot the linguist) and the fact that it had made the headlines
  22. made me wonder.....

  24. 2) It was said that Nureyev may have died of AIDS (he denied it).
  25. Immediately after this it was stated that 'Nureyev was widely known
  26. to have had lovers of both sexes...'
  27. OH Noooooo..... You mean he was one of <whisper> *those*. One of those
  28. <even whisperer> *bisexuals*. Well, of course, he was promiscuous, and
  29. of _course_ he got AIDS, and well, its whats to be expected.

  31. He was one of _those_ (ie gay/bi), and only _they_ get AIDS...

  33. 3) If Nureyev did have AIDS (which does seem likely), it is sad that
  34. he felt the need to hide it, even at his death. I'm not about to go
  35. around claiming HIV+ 'pride', but _hell_.... people get terminally
  36. ill from numerous diseases: Cancer, heart disease, ms etc, and some
  37. of these _may_ be attributable to 'lifestyle', but are _they_
  38. ostracised in the way AIDS sufferers are ...?

  40. Why is it that if you die of drug/alcohol abuse (Parker, Dylan Thomas,
  41. Jim Morrison etc) You become romanticised and a 'tortured artist',
  42. yet if you die of more prosaic means (AIDS) you are labelled as some
  43. kind of pervert.....
