  17. I turns out that the Mars Observer flight software and the new Mac OS
  18. turned out to be almost identical in hex. The program can fulfill two
  19. such different applications because the Mars Observer SCP (spacecraft
  20. processor)
  21. interprets the code as Mil-Std 1750A instructions instead of motorola
  22. 680x0 instructions. The the coincidence was the source of much amusement
  23. when it was first discovered. It looks like the STAREX anomaly tiger team
  24. might recommend code changes that would cause the two programs to differ
  25. again, so we plan to continue our own development rather than waiting
  26. for the next Apple update...
