  12. I take an old tape, or a good commercial tape, and, with head phones on,
  13. turn the treble all the way up and the bass all the way down, and turn
  14. off the noise reduction, turn the volume up, and adjust for maximum
  15. hiss (noise), ie adjust so you can hear the high frequencies the best.

  17. I end up braketing a 1/4 turn segment (rotating the screw quickly) that
  18. contains the best segment, and set it for the center of that range.
