-
- A Rieke diagram is sort of a fancy Smith chart for representing how the load
- impedance and its point of connection to the magnetron can affect the power
- output of the tube and its frequency. Contours of frequency and power output
- are plotted on an admittance circle diagram, a point on which respresents the
- complex admittance of the load. Sometimes an impedance circle is used in which
- case a point represents the resistance and reactance of the load. Another
- form which typically uses a conventional polar representation for the complex
- impedance (admittance) of the load is often called a load diagram.
-
- A Hartree diagram shows the theoretical minimum anode voltage at which operation
- is possible in the various modes of the magnetron. Under operating conditions
- the anode voltage must exceed the values given in the diagram. The diagram
- plots anode voltage on the vertical axis versus magnetic flux density on the
- horizontal axis.
-
- Another graph often found with magnetron design data is the performance chart
- which plots a family of power outputs on a graph with anode voltage vs. anode
- current. Such a graph may contain additional lines of constant frequency or
- constant efficiency.
-
- Fortunately the designer of the magnetron has to worry the most about these
- properties. The designer of the oven has even less work with these things.
- And the user of the oven just has to push the buttons - even my wife can
- (usually) operate one! ;-)
