- : The taxonomy used by GenBank (the US DNA sequence repository) is:
- :
- : Eukaryotae/Animalia/Metazoa/Arthropoda/Uniramia/Insecta/Pterygota/Neoptera
- : /Holometabola/Diptera/Brachycera/Cyclorrhapha/Drosophila
- :
- : There's obviously some additions to Linnaeus' scheme here, but I
- : believe you can sort it out.
-
- The only problem is: Where is the family? It should be between
- Cyclorrhapha and Drosophila. The other information seems
- rather trivial. (I think we all know that Drosophila is a
- fly.)
-
- So, the answer to the original question is Drosophilidae.
- (Family names always end in -idae in zoology, and in this
- case, Drosophila is the genus that gives the family its name.
- Thus, the probability that the family affiliation has changed
- is somewhat reduced. However, I can't grant that it is up to date.)
