  26. Yes, they most likely are asbestos.  The rule for mechanics seems only
  27. to be not to use compressed air to clean the parts.  However, that
  28. seems a bit liberal.  In places that can take it, spraying a light
  29. mist of water, maybe mixed with a detergent as a wetting agent over
  30. the dust to prevent its getting airborn.  Spraying over the dust and
  31. letting it settle is probably the best approach.  I believe that this
  32. is roughly the method used by hazardous waste cleaners.

  34. Note that the dust masks in hardware stores are generally nuisance
  35. masks and are not sufficient to deal with asbestos.
