- The alternator on my 1978 VW Polo is no longer working! The car,
- although about 15 years old, has only done 56,000 (genuine) miles.
- Apparently a common fault with old VWs is that oil occasionally leaks
- onto the alternator (looks like it has on mine) - is this to blame?
-
- I would like informed advice from people as to whether it is worth me
- taking it to bits, cleaning it up and fitting some new brushes or just
- to admit premature defeat and take it in for an exchange alternator.
-
- If you are not familiar with this car, it is the VW smaller than the
- Golf (is this what you call a Rabbit in the States/Canada?)
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
- Iain.
-
- PS. this has also been posted in rec.autos.vw (but I had problems with
- cross posting, so had to do it manually :-( )
