  15. Could anybody can give me suggestions about my fuel gauge problem?

  17. I was driving steep mountain road for about 20 to 30 min at lower
  18. gear (2nd and 3rd, sometimes 1st) and suddenly all the warning
  19. lights came on. So I stopped car and found something (smells like wire)
  20. smells burning badly. 
  21. I check around but could not figure out what was wrong. 
  22. Since I don't have much knowledge about car and no help in the middle of the
  23. mountain, I just procceded stop and go driving to get out of that mountain.

  25. Since then my fuel gauge indicator drops to empty status whenever the car
  26. is waiting on red light - which means the gauge drops whenever the car stops.
  27. When the car moves, the guage moves back to where it supposed to.

  29. The car is 87 Mazda pick-up.
