- -> Quite a few years ago there was a feature in Popular Science about a
- -> gasoline adiabatic engine that Smokey Yunick invented. It was a
-
- I never could figure out how he kept it from detonating its guts out
- after preheating the intake charge; his explanations of how it worked
- didn't make sense, and the couple of journalists who drove the converted
- car said it was a dog, quite different from Yunick's claims.
-
- In my humble opinion, it was a hoax. Yunick has heavy credentials, but
- I flat don't beleive the engine ever worked as he claimed. Evidently
- none of the carmakers who sniffed around it believed it either, or it
- failed to perform as advertised when tested.
