  13. Friend of mine has a Volvo 740 GLE, 6 cyl turbo-diesel (made by 
  14. VW and I think used in the VW bus) with 150,000 miles on it 
  15. that is acting bad.  He noticed some problems and took it to 
  16. the dealer, who said that it needed to be rebuilt.  
  17. The price tag: $6000.  (He drove it for 10 miles with the oil
  18. light on so I am sure it needs a rebuild.)

  20. I told him that he could get the engine rebuilt/replaced for
  21. less but when I called the engine rebuilders locally (in 
  22. Pittsburgh) but none of them had this engine.  I am trying 
  23. to see if he can get it done for less than $3000.

  25. I need some help.  Can you recommend someplace where can I get a 
  26. good used Volvo diesel engine.  My friend is located in Westchester
  27. county New York, so someplace in the Bronx would be ideal, but he
  28. is willing to pay for shipping.

  30. Else can you give me the name of a rebuilder who can rebuild/swap
  31. this engine for less.  (preferably in the NY area)

  33. If it is not possible to get a good used/rebuilt engine is it possible
  34. to swap in some other diesel engine.  I keep hearing about the
  35. Cummins engines.  Can they be swapped in?  The car has an automatic
  36. transmission, and is RWD.  If he can get a good American engine
  37. and transmission in there he is willing to spend more money.

  39. I assume that putting in a gasoline engine is a bear.  Am I right.
  40. If he can locate a gasoline engine what else does he need to swap
  41. in?

  47. PS: The car is in the IBM parking lot and can stay there for a few
  48. weeks if necessary.

  52. The car is in wonderful shape otherwise.  The automatic transmission was 
  53. rebuilt 3 years back at 90,000 miles.
