  23. Actually, the Elan has dropped in price quite a bit over in the US. I was
  24. asking around a few months ago and most of those available then were either
  25. red or white.

  27. However, the Elan is still selling pretty well in countries like Singapore
  28. where it's still going for $170,000.

  30. I've driven the Elan once and I have to say that it handles very well for
  31. a front wheel drive car. From what I know, the Elan had to be front wheel
  32. drive to cut down on cost. Lotus had initially planned to market it for much
  33. less than the US $40,000 price tag. I suppose unexpected developmental costs
  34. crept in. The Elan was introduced amidst a recession in most parts of the
  35. world and strong competition from the Miata and Australian Capri only
  36. served to worsen the entire situation.
