  16. By definition AWD is always engaged; this is technically possible because
  17. of a front/rear differential.  Normally 4WD has low-range, whereas AWD
  18. does not.  Some 4WD/AWD systems (such as Jeep Quadratrac) have low-range,
  19. and are permanently engaged as well.
