  14. I would like to get the opinions of the rec.audio and rec.video gang
  15. on a new audio-video system I am possibly buying.  There are also
  16. a couple of questions about it that I hope some of you can answer.

  19.    Yamaha RX-V850 receiver
  20.    Polk Audio RM 3000 with wall brackets
  21.    Polk Audio CS-100 center channel speaker
  22.    Polk Audio M3 studio monitors (rear effects speakers)
  23.    Sony SLV-696HF VCR
  24.    Sony KV-27EXR20 27" TV
  25.    Sony SU-276 cabinet (to hold the tv and audio gear)

  27. Questions:
  28.    - The system price is $3150.  Reasonable?  I am planning to buy from
  29.      a store, and I know that I could save some by buying some of this
  30.      mail order.

  32.    - I can save $200 by eliminating the Polk rear effect speakers and 
  33.      using some Minimus 7's that I have. Is there something special
  34.      about the M3's that would make them better than general
  35.      purpose bookshelf speakers?

  37.    - Do I really need these $7/pair gold-plated banana connectors that
  38.      the store recommends?  
  39.      Is this just something that audio stores do to rip people off?
  40.      The FAQ mentions these things, but gives no recommendations.  I
  41.      want some good opiniated mail please.

  43.    - Consumer Reports 1993 Buying Guide says that the Polk CS-100
  44.      center-channel speaker, when placed atop the tv, 'caused moderate 
  45.      sound-related disturbance in picture'.  Has anybody on the net 
  46.      experienced this problem?
