- I would like to get the opinions of the rec.audio and rec.video gang
- on a new audio-video system I am possibly buying. There are also
- a couple of questions about it that I hope some of you can answer.
-
- The system:
- Yamaha RX-V850 receiver
- Polk Audio RM 3000 with wall brackets
- Polk Audio CS-100 center channel speaker
- Polk Audio M3 studio monitors (rear effects speakers)
- Sony SLV-696HF VCR
- Sony KV-27EXR20 27" TV
- Sony SU-276 cabinet (to hold the tv and audio gear)
-
- Questions:
- - The system price is $3150. Reasonable? I am planning to buy from
- a store, and I know that I could save some by buying some of this
- mail order.
-
- - I can save $200 by eliminating the Polk rear effect speakers and
- using some Minimus 7's that I have. Is there something special
- about the M3's that would make them better than general
- purpose bookshelf speakers?
-
- - Do I really need these $7/pair gold-plated banana connectors that
- the store recommends?
- Is this just something that audio stores do to rip people off?
- The FAQ mentions these things, but gives no recommendations. I
- want some good opiniated mail please.
-
- - Consumer Reports 1993 Buying Guide says that the Polk CS-100
- center-channel speaker, when placed atop the tv, 'caused moderate
- sound-related disturbance in picture'. Has anybody on the net
- experienced this problem?
-
- Mail please, I will summarize.
-
- Thanks -
