  14. The following Japanese courses will be offered this semester from Penn Language
  15. Center:

  17. I.  Introduction to Japanese I (Monday & Wednesday/6:30-9:00pm)

  19.     Prerequisite: mastery of Japanese orthography (katakana and hiragana)
  20.     
  21.     Textbook: Japanese for Busy People (Kodansha International)

  23.     This class is an non-intensive Japanese class, covering a basic
  24.     Japanese grammar with an emphasis on conversation.  Although it is a
  25.     continuation of the same class from the last semester, it is open to
  26.     anyone who meets the above prerequisite (or anyone who can catch up
  27.     with it!).

  30. II. Business Japanese I (Tuesday & Thursday/6:30-8:45pm)

  32.     Prerequisite: At least 2 years of college-level Japanese or equivalent

  34.     Texbook: Nihongo de Business ("Business in Japanese") (Nichibei Kaiwa
  35.         Gakuin)

  37.     In this course, we will focus on learning Japanese conversation in
  38.     business settings.  Aside from typical interactions in office
  39.     situations, negotiations, meetings, etc., we will also learn to make
  40.     reports and using Japanese wordprocessors.  The class will have several
  41.     talks by Japanese businessmen about the actual business situations in
  42.     the area.  Each students are to make two short presentations about some topics
  43.     related to Japanese business.
