- Ah, yes -- it takes me back. I grew up in Grants Pass and my dad had is
- business in Gold Hill for many years, so I've been by the place more than
- once.
-
- It was (and still is) the "House of Mystery". It is just outside the town
- of Gold Hill, between Rogue River and Central point (between Grants Pass and
- Medford). It was nearly burned out by the Gales Creek fire last year, but I
- understand it was saved.
-
- Take I-5 South to Gold Hill, use the north Gold Hill exit, cross the river
- and head towards Gold Hill on the old Old Highway. Follow the tourist trap
- signs. Watch for speed traps. The HoM is a ways up Gales Creek Road
- (I think that was the name of the road...)
-
- Basically, its a tourist trap of the old school. There's a house (cabin)
- there that was build with all sorts of wierd angle and sloping floors to
- present all sorts of optical illusions. Your brain can get confused when
- what the eyes present do not correlate with the rest of the senses.
-
- It's wrapped in plenty of hockum for the marks and tried the Bermuda Triangle
- and such, hence the "Oregon Vortex". Mildly interesting and fun for the
- kiddies. There's (was?) a place next door where you can pay to pan for gold.
