- This sort of ad is explicitly OK according to the NSFnet guidelines, IMHO.
- The main rule of thumb is the "one-end" rule which says that one end
- of the transaction must be for educational or research use or benefit.
- This rule allows commercial companies to respond to requests for
- information, allows head-hunters to post help wanted ads, and IMHO
- allows a commercial software company to *give away* software to
- students for the cost of shipping and handling, which seems to be what
- Lotus is doing here.
- A s'ware company plugging a 5% student discount would not be
- appropriate, but this looks fine.

- PS It strikes me that you will probably draw some heat because of the
- (unintentionally? ) inflammatory way you posted your message. Shouting
- "THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL even though some sysadmins say so" will get
- everyone on edge. Posting "software giveaway to students " might have
- passed with less notice.
