- Who sets the "tone" at the school these children
- attend? What is and is not tolerated in the
- sense of tormenting other students gets dictated by
- the students or the school administration?
-
- I must live on another planet because the school I
- attended demanded strict adherence to the rules - if
- you stepped out of line you suffered the consequences,
- 'nuff sed?
-
- >Or what about this kid, in a school where (s)he is put down by his, peers,

-
- And what kind of students allow "put downs?" Who
- taught them to tolerate racism and/or "your mother
- blah blah blah" sort of snide remarks - and who
- allows this sort of "interaction" between students
- to continue?

- Well, you've said it all and laid it all really well -
- the parents and school administrators have already decided
- to hell with academics and it's basketball that's more
- important - so why are you asking about smart kids?
-
- In your "direct observations and conservations

- with the schools and his parents, not my opion"
- ^^^^^
-
- did you mean "conversations" and "opinion" by
- any chance?

-
- So, Pete, let's not expect our New President-Elect
- Bill Clinton to fix our education system = just
- maybe we have to fix the attitudes and values of the
- parents and school administrators first!
-
- My dad was a great athlete BUT he checked out homework
- every night and if it wasn't done neatly and correctly
- he tore it up and you started all over again (until you
- did it correctly and neatly) - get the picture?
-
- He allowed us to play outside after school every day but
- he brooked no nonsence when it came to schoolwork and
- there was hell to pay if a teacher sent a note home
- to my father ** mega sigh **
