  13. door to door.  This one is called Chapel Sales, Inc.
  14. (nice name, eh?  inspires trust) and is out of New Jersey.

  16. They come door to door across the country and sell you
  17. magazine subscriptions.  How could you lose, right?
  18. I mean, you know what a magazine is...

  20. The problem is, they take your deposit (50%), and in
  21. 2-3 weeks, you send the rest of the payment (50%).

  23. Then, you never see your magazines.  Try calling their
  24. customer assistance number?  It's busy?  Try using a
  25. demon dialer, dialing the line every 15 seconds.  Hmmm...
  26. it almost seems like the phone is off the hook (except
  27. for outside business hours, where it is attached to
  28. an outgoing message answering machine).

  30. I have already written the BBB of New Jersey, but they don't
  31. seem particularly interested in doing much other than filing
  32. my letter.  I may just sue out of principle (anybody know
  33. a principled lawyer?)

  35. Oh, I should mention that I wrote the company to try to
  36. cancel the order, but the purchase agreement said you
  37. could only cancel the order within 72 hours of signing
  38. it (and I don't see how you could when the phone is busy)

  40. If anyone catches these people outside your front door,
  41. reach immediately for your baseball bat.
