  22. Indeed.  I just finished acting as general contractor in building my
  23. new house.  All the appliance stores were willing to bid to sell me a
  24. package of appliances (cooktop, dishwasher, oven, downdraft vent, 2
  25. microwaves).  I'm told that even Sears will do this.  I didn't have to
  26. seek out a special "builders" store.

  28. The lowest bid was from the snottiest store in town.  (BASCO, Portland,
  29. Oregon -- don't go in wearing a T-shirt or you'll get attitude.)  I
  30. FAXed it to the store that I wanted to do business with, and they
  31. matched the bid.

  33. (I didn't include a refrigerator because all the built-in refrigerators
  34. looked to me like ripoffs.  After moving in, I ordered two standard
  35. Amanas, which stand next to each other and pretend to be a single
  36. 40-cubic-foot side-by-side unit.  Both together for 1/3 the price of a
  37. Subzero with less volume.)
