- Techniclly you have to sign for the Box first, if the UPS guy wants to wait
- for you to look inside that is his business. But I believe it UPS policy
- not to let someone open a box until it is signed for.
-
- I know with regular freight carriers this is policy. The reason that I know
- this is that I used to work with my father and grandfather on their trucks.
-
- Here is what happened to one driver that I knew. He had a sofa that had
- hidden damage. He was nice about letting the people open the box and check
- it before signing, big mistake. They refused the sofa, it went back to
- the terminal and then back to the shipper. The shipper on seeing an open
- box said the damage was caused by the trucking company and that driver opened
- the package. The trucking company was out the money for shipping and since
- the box was opened and not signed for it was out the money for the sofa.
- Guess where the money came from the pay the claims, you guesed it, each driver
- had a bond with the company and they took part of the claim from there.
-
- Now if you want to hear a story about forging a certified check and refusal
- of the DA to procescute let me know.
