- I have experienced difficulties in getting a few books, so I want to
- ask if there are alternative sources to aid my search. One book is
- just going out of print, I think, and the other is available in
- Brittain and also in New York City, but not available here until April
- 1993.
-
- I eventually found _Jazz: An Essential Companion_, by Ian Carr, et al,
- in a discount book shop specializing is overstock and "cutout" books.
- I had previously tried 4 bookstores, and none of them had any listing
- for the book, so I was surprised to find it at all. This book was
- originally published in Brittain, but was reprinted here in the USA.
- Seeing that the copyright date was 1987, why was it not listed at all?
- Or what list should I try to find it on?
-
- The other book I am looking for is _The Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD,
- LP, & Cassette_, which I know is available in England because Wire
- magazine reviewed it, and they are also giving it away as a prize. A
- fellow on the net says the book is available in NYC, at a Barnes and
- Noble store. So I asked a B. Dalton store (which is owned by B & N)
- about the book, and they said it would be available in April 1993. I
- had no luck with BookStar, which is also owned by B & N. I mentioned
- that they should be able to get whatever B & N in NYC can get, and
- they said that they are a "discount" book store, and can only get the
- books which are listed in their computer as available from their
- supplier. Is there any way to get that book, other than sending money
- to my email friend in NYC? And why are "foreign" books not listed or
- available? We may have a global economy, but we don't seem to have a
- global business in books.
