  18. To all those who call  themselves democrats!
  19.  
  20. For over a year helplessness, bewilderment and disruption have
  21. been paralyzing our society. We have always believed that
  22. racism and violence against foreigners, Jews, disabled people,
  23. homosexuals... could never be repeated in Germany. Despite
  24. this they have been repeated. Therefore we must make it
  25. clearer than before that we do not condone the attacks forces
  26. hostile to democracy on the freedom of the people.

  28. For weeks now hundreds of thousands of people have
  29. demonstrated in the streets for  human rights and against the
  30. current politics. However:
  31. the German government is still ignoring the will of the silent
  32. majority that is gradually waking;
  33. the German government is taking refuge in party political
  34. skirmishes;
  35. the German government is solely preoccupied with its power
  36. interests.

  38. Or to state it more clearly:
  39. The duty of our society to provide help and solidarity for all
  40. foreigners, Jews, disabled people, homosexuals... is one
  41. thing. But it is the work of the government to carry through
  42. effective measures against the right wing terror and to
  43. protect all potential victims.
  44. We are the sovereign, we must  make it totally clear to the
  45. government what we demand of them.

  47. On the 30th of January 1993 falls the sixtieth anniversary of
  48. Hitler's seizure of power. 60 years ago the established
  49. politicians foundered on their false belief that the Nazis
  50. were after all harmless and through their inclusion in the
  51. democratic system could be exposed as laughable and incapable.
  52. The seizure of power followed and was not to be reversed.

  54. We will not accept such experiments again. The Federal
  55. Republic is not the Weimar Republic. The overwhelming majority
  56. wants an end to the right wing terror and a peaceful
  57. coextistence with and equal rights for all foreigners, Jews,
  58. disabled people, homosexuals...
  59.  
  60. The politicians and the government will doubtlessly give
  61. hypocritical speeches and those of the right wing will march
  62. forth and pillage. But we shall not be passive observers but
  63. will inundate the government with thousands of postcards. We
  64. will not rid ourselves of the responsability that we have
  65. inherited from our parents and grandparents. Germany will
  66. still not experience normality for a long time.

  131. This idea was started by the "98ers", an unorganized group of
  132. German students of various subjects. This group is fed up with
  133. the unpolitical  and consume orientated mentality of the
  134. eighties. We need critical thinking, initiative and action
  135. that were essential points in the 68 movement.
