  18. After discussing the matter, we have decided to no longer forward the
  19. "MIM" ("Maoist International Movement") posts (although continuing
  20. some of the other New York Transfer Service ("nyxfer") posts) on the
  21. grounds that, in any meaningful sense of the word, MIM and the Shining
  22. Path terrorists they support are not "progressive" and hence do not
  23. belong in misc.activism.progressive (LaRouche too claimed to be a
  24. "progressive" at one time).

  26. The recent 3-part "The Reactionary Shining Path" posts detailing the
  27. murderous campaign of Peru's Maoist guerrillas against community;
  28. labor; women's movement; and other demoratic progressive grassroots
  29. organizations and leaders speaks loudly and clearly on this matter,
  30. and the so-called left/progressive "credentials" of the Shining Path /
  31. Sendero Lumenoso / Peru Co / Peru Communist Party terrorists.

  33. We will shortly post also Radio Havana's condemnation of Sendero
  34. alonside its deathsquad moral equivalent, the Peruvian army.

  36. In fact, just yesterday (1/8) Americas Watch released a report on the
  37. deliberate violence against women employed as a *strategy* by both the
  38. Peruvian army (rape as a tactical weapon of war) and the reactionary
  39. Sendero/Shining Path (deliberate targeting of women for murder in
  40. order to terrorize communities and prevent struggles against the
  41. Peruvian dictatorship independent of Sendero Maoist dogma and,
  42. crucially, Sendero control).

  44. While misc.activism.progressive (MAP) has tolerated and will continue
  45. to tolerate analysis from various sources/perspective with which we do
  46. not always agree, "MIM" is has been a steadfast apologist for the
  47. reactionary Shinining Path thugs (with its "the SCIENCE of Maoism"
  48. [emphasis added], "Gonzalo-thought" etc), and is about as
  49. "progressive" as Ronald Reagan was for "freedom" and "democracy" -- or
  50. about as much as the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany)
  51. was "democratic" -- or "socialist" -- it was neither.

  53. "MIM" can continue their posts on the unmoderated alt.activism and
  54. other newsgroups with far larger audience, of course, just as we
  55. support freedom of speech on the Net and elsewhere for others with
  56. whom we passionately disagree, but we will no longer sanction its
  57. reactionary views under the "progressive" umbrella of MAP/ACTIV-L, and
  58. all future submissions from MIM will not be accepted.
