  15. The mailing list affiliated with misc.activism.progressive (MAP) is
  16. run by a "listserver" which also operated an automated archiver
  17. service. To use this service, one sends "commands" -- simple email
  18. messages in certain formats, to the listserver's address, which is
  19. LISTSERV@UMCVMB.BITNET, or LISTSERV@UMCVMB.MISSOURI.EDU
  20.  
  21. The most basic service available is the GET command; when the
  22. listserver receives a GET command from you, it automatically emails
  23. you the file(s) you requested.

  25. To use the GET command,

  28.     To get a file named FILE NAME from the
  29.     archiver (files are two words  separa-
  30.     ted by a space), send the 1-line message
  31.  
  32.     GET FILE NAME ACTIV-L

  34.     to: LISTSERV@UMCVMB.BITNET
  35.     [or: LISTSERV@UMCVMB.MISSOURI.EDU]

  38.     Use GET with the file ACTIV-L ARCHIVE for a listing of
  39.     files available with the GET command.

  41. Thus, for example, to have the listserver email you the index file
  42. ACTIV-L ARCHIVE which lists the files available with the GET command,
  43. just send the 1-line message GET ACTIV-L ARCHIVE ACTIV-L to the
  44. listserver address given above. Remember: don't email these commands
  45. to Rich, Harel, or other human-folks; the listserver itself "understands"
  46. them. If you are thoroughly confused (try emailing "help" to
  47. LISTSERV@UMCVMB.BITNET first) you can of course consult with Rich
  48. [mathrich@umcvmb.bitnet].
