- I'm TRYING to learn emacs 18.55 under csh. One of the problems I have
- is I can't get emacs to recognize the number of lines my terminal has.
- I telnet from my PC (which has 50 lines but is otherwise VT-100) to
- my UNIX host.
-
- I use STTY ROWS 50 and vi happily uses all my screen. I heard that
- you have to either reference the termcap entry with the TERM environment
- variable, or set TERMCAP equal to the termcap entry that you want.
-
- So I copied the VT-100 entry, changed the number of lines parameter,
- and that doesn't work either.
-
- Personally, I think the emacs manual sucks. It desperately needs a quick
- reference section, it's not really well organized, and it's missing some
- important information.
-
- At least my IBM VM/CMS XEDIT manuals have all the info, even if you have
- to dig for three days. Emacs seems pretty powerful, though, and I imagine
- I'll have to just slog through until I get basic stuff memorized.
