- Good news: REDUCE under SUN SPARC Solaris 2.x is available. The previous
- version of PSL based REDUCE will *not* run with this operating
- system as many aspects, including the format of executables have
- changed. All owners of a license of PSL based REDUCE 3.4 and 3.4.1
- for the Sparc may order an update cartridge for $30 (Germany: DM50),
- in the European community plus 15% VAT.
-
- Bad News: IBM's operating system AIX 3.2.2 for the RS6000 series has
- a bug which causes the system to hang up under REDUCE from time to
- time. The IBM engineers have isolated the bug, but an official patch
- is not yet known. It is definite that this is not a REDUCE or PSL
- problem and it has nothing to do with the system service installed
- together with PSL/REDUCE (the bug does not disappear if REDUCE/PSL
- executes without that system service). For contacts with IBM: the
- bug has been isolated in the 1st half of last December at the
- computing center of the University of Cologne by IBM engineers from
- Mainz (Germany).
