- The ICCCM states that window positioning information, sent via WM_NORMAL_HINTS
- is supposed to be interpreted as the position of the "outer rectangle of the
- overall window", the outer rectangle including "any borders or decorations
- supplied by the window manager". Mwm (up to 1.1.3) seems to, by default,
- adhere to this scheme for the initial positioning of a window. I say "by
- default" because there is a resource "Mwm*positionIsFrame" which if set to
- False is supposed to alter this behaviour, but doesn't always.
-
- I'm seeing a problem testing a client with mwm where the client is trying to
- position a window and mwm is using the origin of the window, rather than that
- of the decoration. This is causing major problems (which for many reasons
- I won't get into). This same operation works just fine with twm and all
- variations on that window manager, and later versions of olwm and olvwm.
-
- Can anyone tell me if this bug is fixed in any later versions of mwm, and
- which version(s) would contain the fix? Also, can anyone tell me if there
- is a good reason why the "Mwm*positionIsFrame" resource seems to work with
- initial window positioning and with manual window moves via the window
- manager, but has absolutely no effect on client requested window moves?
-
- It looks like I'll have to write a simple client which tests out this
- functionality. If anyone cares to try it out on their favorite window
- manager let me know, and I'll send the sources if you promise to tell me
- the results.
-
- Please respond directly to me via email if possible.
