- I have done dialup PPP and SLIP (these implement the IP protocol over
- serial lines). After using both for many months, I prefer PPP, simply
- because the implementations appear to be more robust and don't crash
- my systems. (Of course this is anecdotal.) I did this between two Suns,
- both running SunOS 4.1.1. One of them used Morningstar PPP (commercial).
- The other used a public domain implementation of PPP.

- For displaying text, and drawing simple line drawings, my modem X
- operations work fine, though quite a bit slower than ethernet. For
- large pictures, however, you have a long wait ahead of you.

- The new serial line stuff in X11R6/Xvision is beneficial only in that it
- provides substantial compression and therefore is faster. PPP/SLIP will
- do the job acceptably for now, however.
