- According to my Interactive Unix manual, rmtab "is used only to preserve
- information between crashes and is read only by mountd(1M) when it starts up.
- The mountd command keeps an in-core table, which it uses to handle requests
- from programs like showmount(1) and shutdown(1M)."

- The problem appears to lie in clearing the "in-core" table. Deleteing the
- contents of /etc/rmtab has no effect.
