- My limited understanding of how the NIS passwd file works led me to believe
- that the local passwd file would be read sequentially looking for the desired
- key until a + entry was found, at this point it would look to the NIS maps.
-
- I have found that in our network, on a SPARC (slave), if it's ethernet is
- DISconected, I can't login as one of the local users, such as sync.
- Here is an example of what my /etc/passwd looks like:
-
- root:XXrTa8L5oqk:0:1:Operator:/:/bin/csh
- sys:*:2:2::/:/bin/csh
- bin:*:3:3::/bin:
- sync::1:1::/:/bin/sync
- +::0:0:::
-
-
- Can anybody tell me why this hangs when I try to login as as one of the users
- listed before the line starting with '+' ? Is this slave trying to do some
- type of NIS lookup?
-
- Much thanks.
