- Dumps for a couple of our filesystems have begun failing, with the
- following error output from dump:
-
- DUMP: Child 23222 returns LOB status 15
- DUMP: Bad return code from dump: 0
-
- (The "Child 23222" changes with each occurence; I assume it is the pid
- of the child process.)
-
- So, does anyone know what this error might mean? I haven't noticed
- any other errors from these filesystems. Might this indicate a
- problem with the filesystem structure? Should I umount and fsck them?
- This system has hundreds of simultaneous users, so I am reluctant to
- do this if it is not needed.

- We perform our dumps by rsh'ing over from the "dump server" (a
- 5000/125 with an Exabyte 8mm drive) to each host and executing
- /bin/dump to stdout, and piping the output from the rsh to dd (and
- outputting that to the tape drive). This usually works fine, and I
- don't think this is relevant to the problem I'm having, but I thought
- I should mention it.
-
- Many thanks for any advice,
-
