- (Machine = DecStn 5000/200 - Ultrix 4.2)
- I just needed to install the Ultrix 4.2 packetfilter patches pfilt.o and
- net_common.o so I installed them...
-
- While I was at it I thought I would install the lk201 Keyboard "b6" error
- problem patches, ibt431.o, bt455.o, lk201.o and ws_device.o as well...
-
- And increase the number of pseudo ttys (to 4 lots of 16) so I also did the
- MAKEDEV for the new pty/tty groups.
-
- I made sure the following were in the Kernel config file...
-
- options PACKETFILTER
-
- pseudo-device pty 4
-
- pseudo-device packetfilter
-
- and rebuilt the kernel, which happened with no errors, then rebooted with the
- "new" kernel.
-
- Once booted everything seemed ok, except any telnet connection attempt resulted
- in "All network ports in use" .
-
- However only I was logged in from an Xterm on ttyp0, ttyp1, ttyp2 & ttyp3 so
- I logged off from ttyp0 & tried a telnet again - It worked ! but any subsequent
- did not (note that the rest of the ttyp's were unused at the time)
-
- I know I should never have changed so many things at once, but my users don't
- like the machine going up & down all the time testing kernels ;-) I suppose I
- will have to try each change individually until it goes wrong again, unless...
-
- Anyone seen this before ?
- Do I have to stick with the number of pseudo ttys I already have ?
-
- any help appreciated...
-
- Thanks
-
