  10. I have to copy on a *VMS* node a file *from* that node *to* an
  11. Ultrix node via DECnet in order to process it later on from a PC.
  12.  
  13. I wanted copy to convert the VMS file name specifications to Ultrix
  14. specification: strip off version number and convert to lowercase.
  15.  
  16. It seems to me, that COPY and none of its qualifiers will do that: the file
  17. is created uppercase and with version number. The problem then: this file
  18. can't be seen from a Pathworks PC.

  20. Is there a way to prevent this? The copy command looks like this:
  21. VMS $ COPY FILE.EXT ULTRIX"ACCOUNT PASSWORD"::
  22.  
  23. What I *do not* need are workarounds like initiating the copy from Ultrix
  24. or DOS (where this conversion will be done, of course).

  26. BTW, is there a way to give the file another protection while created
  27. by fal (it does not work with COPY/PROTECTION). Fal does not process
  28. .login or .profile, so setting the umask there is of no avail. Is there
  29. a special startup script for fal (i.e. .fal)?
