- Can I put ESIX 4.0.4 on a diet?? I have 8 MEG of memory on my
- 386/33 clone and seem to be running short of memory. In multi-
- user mode with very few daemons running, "sar -r" tells me that
- I have about 800 PAGES of available memory. In single user mode
- "sar -r " tells me that I have about 900 PAGES free. If a PAGE
- ,as defined in <sys/param.h>, is 4096 bytes then on an 8 meg
- system I should have about 1900 PAGES base memory. This means
- that UNIX is using about 1000 PAGES in single user mode. Forget
- running X, the machine starts swapping badly. What modules can
- I trim from the kernel (or at least de-tune) to aquire more memory??
-
- I plan to get another 8MEG but until then I would like to get
- the most out of what I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated..
