- HELP!!!!!!! this is an Emercency-call !!!!!!!!!
-
- I try to etablish network-printing.We have several ISC-3.2.3-Machines
- which do network-printing fine. Now we want to switch for several
- reasons to SYR4 ( we got Esix 4.0.4 ). It was for me impossible to
- convince the Esix-System to do its network-printing-job.
-
- There are no problems with telnet, ftp and nfs.
- I got these problems only with network-printing. Local printing
- is neither a problem.
-
-
- You see that the portmonitor is running with two services( i changed meanwhile
- listenS5 for listenBSD with no positive outcomes ).

- I guess the lpr-service should work with this configuration.
- The printer we want to use on the ISC-Machine ( Name:star_10) was correctly
- installed as you can see. The printer was registered as a remote
- printer:
-
- This is the output of the command "lpstat -t":
-
- ===============================================================================
- scheduler is running
- system default destination: nec
- device for nec: /dev/lp1
- system for star_10: Sequoia.antropos.UniMz.de (as printer star_10)
- nec accepting requests since Wed Oct 28 00:58:06 MEZ 1992
- star_10 accepting requests since Mon Jan 11 08:13:12 MEZ 1993
- printer nec is idle. enabled since Tue Dec 8 10:47:27 MEZ 1992. available.
- printer star_10 is idle. enabled since Mon Jan 11 09:27:13 MEZ 1993. available.
- star_10-132 root 450 Jan 11 08:18 canceled
- star_10-135 root 450 Jan 11 09:27
- ===============================================================================
- But when you send a request to the printer strange things were happening.
- The command was "lpr -Pstar_10 <file-name>"
-
- The first curiosity was that lpsched treated the job as a local request.
- lpc told us that "star_10" was about to print the job. But the printer
- was idle and the ISC-machine never got the file.
-
- So i used the command /usr/ucb/lpq -Pstar_10 to have a look on the queue:
-
- ============================================================================
- UX:lpq: ERROR: Received unexpected status 10 in a reply from the
- LP print service.
- TO FIX: It's likely there is an error in this
- software. Please get help from your
- system administrator.
-
- ============================================================================
- I tried to find out what the unexpected status 10 could mean. I could not
- find any hint in the man pages or even in the System Adminitrator's Guide.
-
- As you can see the Esix-Scheduler or the Lpr-Comand copied the file to
- the spool-area of the local printer( Glacier is the name of the Esix-Machine ).

- It is interesting to see that the lpc-command of another ISC-machine which
- tried to print a file on the Esix-machine showed the message:
-
- =======================================================================
-
- nec:
- queueing enabled
- printing enabled
- 1 entry in spool area
- waiting for Glacier.antropos.UniMz.de to come up
-
- =======================================================================
-
- so I don't know what is going on. Any suggestions are welcome.
