- I'm desperately trying to get some disk attached to a Sun 3, I need some
- info/help.
-
- I have a Sun 3/60 that I want to connect to a disk tray I got from an
- IBM PC RT setup. The tray has 4 EDSI drives which are connected to an
- Emulex MD24/C which is connected to a Rancho RT-SDA, a differential to
- single-ended SCSI converter.
-
- I think the MD24 is essentially an MD21 with support for 4 EDSI drives
- rather than 2, and for differential SCSI rather than single-ended. I
- plugged my Sun into a Sun (Wangtek) tapedrive then into the Rancho
- convertor card. The Sun boots ok from the tape, but using format(8),
- the disks are not seen. If the disk tray is powered off then on, the
- tape drive rewinds and clatters about (implying a SCSI reset?) but
- still no sign of the disk.
-
- a) Is the RT-SDA convertor two way?
- Originally it was used with a differential SCSI host
- and single-ended tape & disk drives. I want to use it
- with a Sun so the host is single-ended and the Emulex
- is differential.
-
- b) Anyone know about the MD24/C? Is it like a MD21? Are the
- dip switches the same? What LED's should be lit?
-
- I need to get some disk working with my Sun, and I'd like to use the
- kit I have already, though at worst I suppose I could buy a couple of
- MD21's...
-
- If anyone out there can offer any help, suggestions or likely sources of
- more information I'd be most grateful, email to addresses below preferred.
