- 1. Unified Software Systems has a menuing product, CENTRUS UX. CENTRUS
- provides end-user menuing and increased levels of security (access
- control). CENTRUS UX is initially available for HP 9000/8xx platforms
- under HP-UX; end-users access that host via character-based terminals in
- a timesharing mode.
-
- 2. Think of CENTRUS UX as a Resource Management product for unix, where the
- resources requiring management include:
- a. End-users.
- b. Applications run by those end-users.
- c. Terminals/devices used by those end-users.
-
- 3. To end-users, CENTRUS presents a menu of their authorized applications.
- End-users interact with their menus instead of with one of the unix
- shells -- obviating the need for training. Menus are customizable (both
- by the individual end-user and by the system administrator) into a two-
- level hierarchy of a main menu and submenus, as needed.
-
- In addition, at login, end-users are (optionally) greeted by local news
- and/or messages customized for the differing, local classes of end-
- users.
-
- 4. For the system administrator and/or security administrator, CENTRUS
- offers increasing levels of access control in an easy-to-use format:
- a. Access control may be exercised individually or collectively over
- end-users, applications, and terminals. (Control exercised at the
- collective, class-level simplifies the chore of end-user
- administration.)
- b. Access control may be governed by:
- (1) Time-of-day criteria.
- (2) Day-of-week criteria.
- (3) Simple active/inactive criteria.
- c. Additional password protection may be added for end-users,
- applications, and terminals -- over and above that provided by
- unix.
- d. CENTRUS provides 12 menu-driven, form fill-in screens with which to
- effect the system/security administration activities.
- e. CENTRUS provides logs and reports of user activities and of
- attempted authorization breaches (attempted security violations).
