- As a user of many UTS machines, I can give a "user" perspective.
- The UTS systems have become so reliable that I no longer worry about when
- the next "crash" will occur or when the next 'please log off NOW' message
- will appear. With >500 users logged on, and many running multiple "layers(1)"
- sessions, the systems are still very responsive and seem to manage LARGE
- files better than any other I use. The systems also appear to offer more
- communications and "peripheral" attachments than you could possibly want to
- use.
-
- Don't you also offer an ISDN interface (or is that really an X.25 interface
- after some Front End de-muxing)?
-
- I gave up trying to test normal benchmarks on the systems -- much too fast.
- The real-world test is to load up some large C sources (GNU whatever, Kermit,
- etc.) and then type (with 500 other folks logged in):
-
- make
-
- (The output just flies by....)
-
- Al Varney -- just MY opinion. I have no connection with Amdahl nor with
- the comp. center folks at any AT&T location, other than as a
- very satisfied user. And I don't know the size/number of
- systems involved -- for all I know, they're all just virtual
- UTS systems running under VM-world on a VERY fast CPU....
