  14. Hi.  I finally got my drive cleaned up enough to try installing 386bsd (I will
  15. hopefully be getting an additional, much larger (500+ MB) drive in the next
  16. month or so).  Current system:
  17.     Motherboard:    Datawise MB486-66U w/486sx25 (running at 40) [ISA]
  18.     Cache:        64 K
  19.     BIOS:        MR. BIOS
  20.     RAM:        8 Meg  (ShadowRAM enabled)
  21.     IDE 42 Meg Seagate (ST157A, I think.  I scavenged it out of my 286)
  22.     Plus HardCard IIXL 105 Meg (any way to use part of this for 386bsd?)
  23.     Archive QIC-150 SCSI drive from a SGI PI/25 (but no SCSI card yet :( )
  24.     VGA 14" 640x480 (card supports 800x600)
  25.     Hewlett-Packard LaserJet IIP
  26.     OS:        DOS 4.01, Windoze 3.0 (rarely used),
  27.             partial install of OS/2 2.0
  28.     386BSD v0.1 (7/92, downloaded off agate in late November, as I recall)

  30. What happens is that I run the install fine, but then, when it tells me to
  31. remove the floppy aqnd hit return to boot off the hard drive (it has changed
  32. the active setting to BSD), everything hangs quite thoroughly.  386bsd seems to
  33. ignore the ctrl-alt keys, so I have to hit the reset button to get any response
  34. from my system.  Even after a cold boot, the BSD boot hangs.  Any suggestions?
  35. Has anyone else seen this?  I have been following this (and its previous
  36. incarnations) for several months now, but I don't recall anyone mentioning
  37. having problems quite this early in the setup (some almost like this recently,
  38. but not quite the same).

  40. Thanks for any help (I really want to have Unix running, so I can convince the
  41. CS staff that I need an ethernet connection to my room for the next semester!).
