- I started out using my A/UX 3.0 system with a number of the NOW
- Utilities 3.0. The FAQ indicates that all but Super Boomerang should
- work. There are apparently a few more compatibility problems. I would
- like to hear about different experiences from others:
-
- 1) If I open the Desk Picture Control Panel, I can place a startup screen
- manually. However, Desk Picture will not bring it up automatically upon
- login. Instead, a blank screen with a rather cryptic error message is
- produced.
-
- 2) In association with one or more of the other utilities (the ones I've
- tried are: StartUp Manager, WYSIWYG Menus, NowSave, MultiMaster,
- and AlarmsClock), the system seems to run into some limit on the
- number (or more likely the total heap size) of extensions that are
- loaded at login. Namely, if I include all of these utilities along with
- my others (e.g., Gatekeeper, FMBackup, ATM, After Dark) in my personal
- System Folder, the last one (which is usually ATM) or two will not
- be loaded. My first suspect was StartUp Manager. Initially, removing it
- appeared to solve the problem. However, the trouble occurred again today.
- This time I eliminated MultiMaster (and CEToolbox; using AppleMenuItems
- instead) and have again gotten things working properly. But, this may
- just mean that I'm once again well below the size limit. Further
- experimentation would be required to discern whether not the limit
- has indeed been removed. Has anyone else observed this behavior?
