- : I decided to replace my boot drive in my 2500UX box with a Maxtor 7213S
- : (213meg 3.5" drive). The unit comes shipped from the factory set to
- : device #6. Leaving the drive set for #6, I booted from the Unix install
- : disk and did a complete install. Then I changed the jumper to device #0
- : and tried to boot.
-
- Legend has it that: The install process patches the SCSI ID somewhere (perhaps
- in the kernel itself) and so changing the address confuses it. Are you
- getting a double panic error, etc.? If I were you I would try changing the
- jumper back to #6 just to see what happens. If that works then you can decide
- whether to reconfig (I'm not sure if you have to go through the whole
- re-install again) under ID #0.
-
- I've heard that this is also the case with memory e.g., install under one
- amount of memory but boot under another (e.g. after an upgrade) and it pukes.
- I've only personally witnessed the SCSI ID one though.
