- I am using an RZ-56 drive under AmigaDOS on an A3000. When I installed the
- drive my Amiga was also refusing to recognize it and HDToolBox would hang
- when scanning the SCSI bus. I am not a Unix guru but this sounds similar
- to your problems.
-
- The problem in my case was that RZ-56 drives are normally configured to not
- spin-up on power-on but rather to wait until they receive some special
- spin-up command from the SCSI host controller. The A3000's SCSI controller
- does NOT send these spin-up commands and thus the drive is never
- recognized.
-
- There is NO jumper on the drive to control this spin-up behavior. Rather,
- you need to toggle a flag in the drive's configuration data which is stored
- on a special reserved area of the disk itself. I have a program to do this
- under AmigaDOS - running the program once made my problems disappear.
- E-mail me if you want it.
-
- I have also heard that a program called RZ (I think) which is available on
- some DEC workstations can be used to toggle the drive parameters. However,
- I have not actually seen/used this program.
