  14. On an RS/6000 running AIX 3.1, all of the queues stopped servicing requests.

  16. "enq -A" showed that all devices were READY and all print jobs were QUEUED. 
  17. Attempting to crank the queues back up with "enq -P queue:device -U" yielded
  18.  
  19.   enq: (WARNING): 0781-174 Cannot signal qdaemon.  Errno = 3.
  20.   enq: errno = 3: The process does not exist.
  21.   enq: (WARNING): 0781-162 Cannot awaken qdaemon (request accepted anyway).

  23. Invoking chque gave similar results. So...I invoked "/bin/startsrc -sqdaemon" 
  24. and qdaemon started back up and the queues began servicing requests again.

  26. Question: what could have caused qdaemon to stop running?  This is a fairly
  27. unburdened system (350 MB free disk space, 32MB RAM, low-activity data entry 
  28. tasks).  Before restarting qdaemon, ps -eal looked like
