- Yeah, AIX 3.2 supports the Sabine adapter, but "support" is about ALL it does!
- We're running a lot of model 320 systems which IBM contributed to us a while
- back, all with Sabine adapters. I have run many tests of this adapter in order
- to find out why it's SOOOO SSSLLLOOOWWW and evidence points to the
- implementation of the X server under 3.2! For example, it takes about 1
- full second just to remove a window from the screen if it's mapped. If it's
- not mapped, it can be destroyed orders of magnitude faster! It literally
- take me 5 minutes to get rid of my xmh window! During that time EVERYTHING
- is hung!
-
- (The obvious response from IBM is always, "Have you talked to your local IBM
- rep.?") Yes, I have! They don't seem to care. They say, "Oh, that's really
- slow!", and that's the last I hear from them.
-
- The warning here is, "If you have Sabine adapters. Trash them and get something
- else. Anything else! IBM pretends to support them, but they aren't really
- interested in making the code work at a reasonable speed."
-
- Just trying make sure others don't get screwed like we did.
