- To All IBM AIX Users in the Atlanta Area:
-
- I am on the Advisory Board of the newly formed AIX Users Group.
- After our first meeting, we determined that we needed to figure
- out what the group's direction should be. Some proposed that we
- be a technical group, much like the Atlanta Unix User's Group
- (AUUG) that focused specifically on AIX. Others proposed that
- we have a more business orientation. Members of the board range
- from Presidents of companies to Software Engineers. What I would
- like to hear from the Atlanta AIX users on the net are answers to
- the following questions:
-
- 1. Are you interested in being a member of an active AIX User's
- Group in Atlanta? If not, why not?
-
- 2. What position do you have (engineer/manager/sales/support)?
-
- 3. What is the size of your company? What products/services does
- your company provide?
-
- 4. What would you like to get from an AIX User's Group? Ideas are
- as follows:
-
- -- Technical Presentations (e.g. DCE, DME, APPC, etc)
- -- Product Demonstrations
- __ Software Development Tools
- __ Accounting Software
- __ CAD/CAM Tools
- __ Scientific Software
- __ Hardware products
- __ other
- -- How to discussions (administration, networking)
- -- IBM directions
- -- How people are using their RS/6000's and other AIX platforms
- -- Social contacts
- -- Business Issues
-
- 5. We have determined that we could use group size to leverage action
- and support from IBM. Would this help you? What kinds of issues would
- you like to see pursued? Examples:
-
- -- Easier System Administration for Beginners (e.g. simplified SMIT)
- -- More information about IBM plans for future products/directions
- -- Improve the scheme used to distribute and apply bug fixes and updates
- -- Improve response to bug and problem reports
-
- 6. Would you like the group to be technical, business, or a combination
- of the two?
-
- 7. Would you like to present a topic or demonstrate a product at an AIX
- User Group Meeting? If so, what?
-
- 8. How many people do you know that use AIX that are not on this network?
- Would they have an interest in an AIX User group?
-
- 9. What other services can the AIX User group provide for you?
-
-
- We have out next Advisory Board Meeting on January 20, 1993, so I would
- appreciate hearing from you before then if possible. Feel free to include
- your name, address, company, and phone number if you wish to be contacted
- about club meetings and activities. The club is being generously sponsored
- this year by Dickens Data Systems with help and participation by IBM.
-
- I am not associated with IBM except as a developer who uses the RS/6000 here
- at Sales Technologies. Sales Technologies does not have any affiliation with
- IBM or the AIX User Group.
