  13.    Thank you very much for the two people who helped me. The answer is to get U402104 (the tape (ARGH!!) will contain U402370), install them and use the 'virtual printer' menu in SMIT. The rest works magically. If you then edit the virtual printer to change the d flag (d=a), you can print ascii to the same printer. I also changed the column file (cr:: to cr::\4) as per private e-mail advice. I don't know wether it's necessary, but it doesn't hurt anything.

  15.    I'm almost happy, but I have the following small question: Given a III with a PS+ cartridge, can I can print PS + ASCII when th eprinter is in PS mode (hplj3.ps stream) and PCL + ASCII when it is in PCL mode (jplj3.pcl stream).
