- ========================
- SGI DNS CLOBBERS AIX DNS
- ========================
- The scenario is this:
-
- SGI IBM
- Irix 4.0.1 AIX 3.2.1
-
- The two machines are in different domains. Each machine is a
- primary for its own domain, and a secondary for the other.
-
- The following work OK:
- =====================
- 1. On the SGI, resolving addresses in its own domain.
- 2. On the IBM, resolving addresses in both domains.
-
- The following does NOT work:
- ===================^^^======
- 1. On the SGI, resolving addresses in the AIX domain.
-
- Symptoms:
- ========
- When the SGI "named" starts, it complains that it cannot access
- the IBM masters (hosts and reverse files).
-
- MORE WORRYING, WHEN THE SGI "named" STARTS, IT CLOBBERS THE AIX
- "named". ^^^^^^^^
-
- According to "ps", the AIX "named" still appears to be running,
- but it won't resolve addresses any more. Only killing and
- restarting the AIX "named" brings address resolution back to life.
-
- (And if I say -HUP to the SGI "named", AIX DNS gets clobbered
- again).
-
- Any ideas???
