- Problem Review:
-
- The RS/6000-560 locked-up daily, no errors reported, no LED codes.
- All hardware tested OK. The system could not be accessed from the
- network or the console. The only fix was a reset.
-
- Cause:
-
- A bug in the 3.2 kernel causes the system to hang when memory
- scrubbing is turned on. IBM said that memory scrubbing should be
- off by default, but this doesn't appear to be true. Once the
- memory scrubbing was turned off, the system was fine.
-
- The following command was used to turn off memory scrubbing:
-
- chdev -l sys0 -amemscrub=false
-
- SMIT can also be used.
-
- THANKS!!!
-
- Thanks to Pierre Verpeaux for providing the correct solution, and
- also to all others who responded. IBM is still searching for the
- fix for this problem.
