- I asked a while back about what everyone was using for admin tools, and
- got nothing but me toos :) So I will be a little more specific in
- describing my needs and would appreciate any pointers.
-
- Every month I - not unlike most of us - am required to provide
- management a characterization of how are resources were utilized
- over the past month. The things which are pertinent are CPU, memory,
- and disk. What would be really nice is to show how individual R&D groups
- have made use of each of these resources. I believe this would probably
- require to accounting on, which I do not utilize as of yet.
-
- Ideally, what I would like is to run a report at the end of month which
- I could summarize the data collected by the utilities over the last
- month and provide meaningful descriptions. Sounds like a Perl job with
- some of the normal unix commands and tools also helping out.
-
- Another thing that would be very helpful is if their was a FAQ maintained
- on Admin tools. It would list various categories, like performance, disk
- management, backups, networks debugging, ... that we all have to do
- throughout our day, a description, platforms supported, and the archive
- which maintains the software and possible mirrors. This would be an
- invaluable service to the community, but I have to find something that
- comes close to it.
-
- Will summarize.
